What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 4-8 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The starting pay for this position is set at $20.31/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver's 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking MY Denver Youth Instructors to instruct, plan, and implement organized specialized art activities and enrichments for youth throughout the MY Denver network of programs. These positions provide an opportunity to make a direct positive impact to enrich the lives of the Denver community's youth, ensuring and participating in fun and engaging programming!

The MY Denver Card provides free access to all Denver's recreation centers for young people, ages 5-18, who are residents of Denver and/or attend Denver Public Schools. MY Denver exists to engage young people in structured drop-in programming through a myriad of learning and social opportunities during out-of-school time. Out-of-school time recreational programming directly contributes to academic and social development, positioning youth for present and future success. MY Denver's focus is to provide safe, supportive, quality opportunities for youth to play, learn, and grow

Location and Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at various Denver Recreation Centers. Programming for this position typically occurs Monday through Friday from 3:30-7:00pm.

What You'll Do

We are seeking a Lego Robotics Instructor to lead classes at recreation centers across the city for youth ages 8-18. Instructors should be comfortable with Lego building instructions and scratch coding.

Job duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Instruct small groups of youth (up to 10 participants) in building and coding Lego Robotics using the Lego Spike Prime kits and tablets.
  • Travel between recreation centers in a timely manner with needed equipment (if applicable) in order to implement programming.
  • Set up and clean-up before and after classes
  • Manage administrative time wisely to respond to emails, report attendance, and complete other administrative duties as necessary
  • Develop meaningful connections with youth, parents, and recreation center staff
  • Assist in training additional staff in the basics of Lego Robotics (basic familiarity with the kits and components)
  • Conduct outreach events and recruitment within the community, supported by the MY Denver Team, as needed
  • Attend meetings up to three times monthly

We are looking for passionate and creative individuals with enthusiasm for youth programming. We need people who can collaborate with a team and work independently to achieve program goals. This position will benefit from individuals who are innovative and up to date on youth programming trends and community needs, and who want to be actively involved in building a better future for our community. Additionally, our ideal candidates will have:
  • Experience coding in Scratch
  • Experience teaching STEM to youth ages 8-18.
  • Experience working with youth (ages 8-18) in an informal instructional setting.
  • Experience with community outreach and collaboration in an organized program
  • Experience in after-school programming for youth
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Publisher, Word, and Outlook

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period.
  • Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
